IX Australia is different to other internet exchanges in Australia. Here’s why:
Not for profit
IX Australia is the only not-for-profit and carrier-neutral internet exchange in Australia.
Unlike commercial internet exchanges, IX Australia revenue is fed back to the development of the exchanges and member services.
Operating since 1995, we like to think we have helped foster development of the internet for all players, big and small.
Our national network covers five states and one territory, with multiple points of presence in each region.
Members are able to connect to their local regions peering exchange directly, or a remote one via our Extended Reach service.
This same network allows us to offer our members virtual leased lines for private connectivity across our network, as well as internet transit where required.
A list of our locations and peers is available on our peering page.
In addition to a wide range of Australian networks, IX Australia participants also gain access to a large number of major content delivery networks.
A full list of participants can be found here additionally IX Australia makes available to members the following services:
- I root nameservers
- Verisign RIRs
- Steam Cache
Plus several other top-tier content providers.
Unlike a bilateral arrangement, when you peer on an IX Australia peering exchange – you gain access to all the peers present on the exchange.
Gaining access to new networks no longer requires a separate commercial agreement and cross-connect fees, everyone benefits.
By utilising our BGP community tags you can enforce policy control, or if you really need it – you’re free to set up a private bilateral session over the IX in addition to the multilateral peering service.
Still not convinced?
That’s okay. Why not head down to one of our events and chat with our existing members about their experiences, or drop us a line and we’ll be happy to help!
